The Winter 2019 KAL is a fabulous colorwork sweater! The Soldotna uses 4 colors and basic stranding techniques for an incredibly beautiful top. Caitlin Hunter is the designer and the genius in this garment is the simple construction….in the round, minimal shaping and no sleeves so no seaming and still managing to yield a complex look! This simple construction lends itself to easy sizing from XS to 3X. While the pattern is written as a crop top it is easily adjusted to add sleeves and lengthen the body. As many of you have heard me say, the odds of seeing me in any form of crop top are exactly zero – the shop sample is knit to sweater length so try it on. The KAL will include notes on adding sleeves and body length. We have teamed up with local dyer Old Soul Fibers to create several color bundles specifically for the Soldotna. Local bundles will have a discounted price but you are certainly free to use your own stash or build a kit from other options and we have some very fun hand dyed skeins for that pop of color! KT will be working this KAL. Class materials include a Soldotna pattern, a summary of the skills, ideas for body length extensions and light refreshments. If you are comfortable in your stranding skills and just want a super fun knit feel free to skip the workshop - grab some yarn and the pattern and just knit along with us! Skills required: - cast on - knit and purl - basic increases - short rows for shaping the neckline - basic stranding experience (the beginner stranding workshop at The NeedleTree is enough) Materials for workshop: - 4 skeins each of 4 different colors DK or worsted yarn (depending on sizing and extending the body length a second skein of the main color may be needed – see KT for planning) - #3 16” circular needle - #5 24-32” circular needle Class size is limited so sign up early to secure your spot!
